7 Decisions to Success

Over a year ago I started to build up my book collection and just recently I stumbled upon a book by recommendation and I have to say this book is the best pick me up/feel good novel I have come across since Twilight haha. I have to be honest...throughout college I hardly ever read books for pleasure. I am not ashamed to admit that now, 3 years later, I have become a little bit of a bookworm. People at work kind of know me as the girl in the break room with a book. While on that subject can I just add that I hate it when people interrupt me while I am reading. I mean seriously....stop talking! I am about to read the best part in this book- it took me over 100 hundreds to get here and you just ruined it. ughhh.
Sorry about that. Venting is always necessary.

Here is the much anticipated book:

Title: The Travelers Gift-Seven Decisions for Personal Success
Author: Andy Andrews

Along the way the author preaches of life's challenges and how to find solutions by simply changing the way you think. Now, I realize some people may have no interest in personal development, but for those who are still looking for signs that there is more to this life, than please continue to read below and take my advice and buy the book.

1. The Buck Stops Here
From this moment forward, I will accept responsibility for my past. I understand that the
beginning of wisdom is to accept the responsibility for my own problems and that by accepting
responsibility for my past, I free myself to move into a bigger, brighter future of my own
choosing.

2. I will Seek Wisdom
Choose your friends and mentors wisely. By serving others you transform your life’s experience
3. I am a Person of Action
Be a person who makes decisions and acts on them quickly. Chamberlain was the man responsible for the Union’s victory in the Civil War due to his decision to take action during a key battle at Gettysburg.
4. I have a Decided Heart
When people doubt your dreams or visions, stand your ground and stay true to what you know to be true.
5. Today I will Choose to be Happy
Happiness and joy are choices that are made everyday. Certain thoughts and activities bring about a chemical reaction in your body that results in you feeling happy. Regardless of your circumstances, you can choose to be happy or not.
6. I will Greet this Day with a Forgiving Spirit
The secret of dissipating anger and resentment is through forgiveness – even to those who do not ask for it. By the simple act of forgiveness, you release the demons of the past about which you can do nothing about and create a new beginning.
7. I will Persist without Exception
Your greatest power is your capacity to exercise choice. Choose to persist and hold fast to your dreams and stay the course, even in the face of exhaustion, rejection and uncertainty.

After I read the book I wrote the 7 decisions on a piece of paper and I put it in my purse. I read it every now and then to remind me of my purpose in this life. Everyone needs a reality check from time to time. I consider myself a young and ambitious person, but just like any normal 20 something girl, I need that extra push in the right direction so I do not steer too far off course.
Life is about taking chances and to limit yourself or to sell yourself short is a tragedy! Like they say in the Army 'BE ALL THAT YOU CAN BE'!!

Where am I now?

Here is a hint...

Don't worry it took me awhile to learn all the monuments too...

And just a little FYI- The lights are never ALL green.
So now you know you can find me strolling down the streets with a book in tow in our nations capitol. Since leaving Vegas I have always dreamt of going back to a big city. I wouldnt have personally picked DC BUT, this place has really shown some perspective and for that I am really starting to value this beautiful life I live! It is quite humorous really. Everyday is a new pick up line in a language I do not know. Seriously- the mexicans love me! The bums love me on payday--any other day I am just in their way.

I live in a MANSION!! (Well atleast it used to be one)
My 'apartment' is an old luxurious mansion that was broken down into mini quarters and broken down some more...and some more. Presently, I am residing here with my boyfriend of 4 years, Tom. Gotta give a shout out to Tom boy! We were fortunate enough to find this place last minute on 16th street in Columbia Heights. Which, from what I heard use to be called, 'ghetto'. So here we are living in the basement...yes, the basement level of this 'mansion' paying wayyyy to much for what they are call a one bedroom suite. I tell ya...those marketing people are super good at what they do. I have posted some pictures below. At first we thought the place was great. That was until around 6 a.m when the garbage truck pulled up to my window and... then the recycling truck pulled up about an hour later. (Going green is costing me my beauty sleep). Luxury living isnt so luxurious when your window is right next to the dumster/recycler. Darn. I will have to rethink the location on my next apartment excursion.

from the outside... The Kitchen I am never in...

Thats my LITTLE living room and................... the One Bedroom 'suite

If you are not familiar with DC I highly recommend you venture here one day to visit and experience this crazy life. Who would of thought you could live and learn all at the same time. Here are a few of my experiences along the way.

Washington Monument

Thats THE White House and the Air and Space Smithsonian

Where did the inspiration to start a blog come from??

It is actually a little silly and sentimental all at the same time. So I was sitting at this Murder Mystery Dinner in Arlington, VA to celebrate my 25th birthday. At the table sat Tom, myself and 7 teeny boppers. Like, hardcore teeny boppers. I bet if I started talking Robert Pattinson, Twilight, Gossip Girl, MTV, all that jazz I would have fit right in. What is worse is I love everything I just listed haha. Anyways, these girls were crackberry addicts. They talked through text. SERIOUSLY! It gave me a good chuckle. They were so focused on some guy who broke up with some girl and yadda yadda yadda. It got me thinking about all of my friends and how I have fallen out of touch with a lot of people who mean so much to me.

This blog is for you! So, the next time you think..'I wonder what Ali is up to', All you have to do is check out my blog and you can rest easy knowing life is good.
